Twiga foundation: impression of voluntary work in 2009

My girlfriend Yorianne and her friend Yvanka are currently volunteering for at Twiga Foundation in Mto Wa Mbu, Tanzania. For more information see www.stichting-twiga.nl or refer directly to their English Website.

Yorianne has created a small movie impression of their activities at Twiga Foundation in 2009 which I’ve just uploaded to YouTube.

Finally decided which hands free solution is good for me!

Wohohoo, I finally made up my mind concerning the hands free solution for my car. I’ve been considering a build-in parrot MKI9200 system or even replacing the radio completely. Eventually I decided to keep the interior of the dashboard intact as it is and instead only mount something on top of it. Parrot recently introduced the new Parrot minikit smart which you can mount on your dashboard, use for hands free calling and also can use to charge your iPhone and amplify the speaker sound while navigating.  I’ll let you know whether I like it in a week or so :)

Small impression:

Movie impression of our trip to New York

New York

New York

It’s been a while since I’ve posted. December is a busy month as always thus I’ve had little time for maintaining my site. A big reason of being busy are the preperations for the half marathon and the MTB beach race in January.

I did find some time to try my new editing software: Premiere Elements 9. This cool movie of our trip to New York city in September is the result. Unfortunately YouTube compression took down the original quality of the Full HD clip, but still it looks quite OK. More movies of our trip (the Canada part!) will follow on short term I hope….

Regards,

Alex

Caro Emerald – Stuck @ DWD

Caro Emerald is one of the most promising Dutch artists of the year. Her current album sold over 200.000 records. She is working hard to get feet on the ground in other countries which is going quite well as far as I can judge :) .

This week she performed at a dutch tv show, De Wereld Draait Door (DWDD), and again it was a very very nice performance. Looking forward so much to her concert where me and my girlfriend will go to in December.

Apple releases iOS 4.2 with iPad Multi Tasking

Woohooo! Apple finally releases iOS 4.2 with multi tasking capabilities for iPad this evening (Netherlands). I wonder how many applications will already support multi tasking since it requires the code layer and UI layer to be seperate from eachother. Apparently this isn’t the case for many iOS applications.

Other features which many will appreciate will now be available for the iPad are:

  • AirPlay
  • AirPrint
  • Grouping icons into folders
  • More advanced e-mail management

iOS 4.2 will be available for the iPhone 3G, 3GS, and 4; the iPod Touch 2G, 3G, and 4G; and the iPad. Updating any of these devices with iOS 4.2 first requires updating your PC to iTunes 10.1, which apple released last week.

This way I know what i’ll be updating this evening :) .

Hmmm… if T-Mobile delivers my mini sim soon – I might be updating my iPhone 4 to iOS 4.2 as well :D

Piet van Vliet – Zwarte P, Witte L

Piet van Vliet

Piet van Vliet

Hehehe, funny song by Piet van Vliet, mainly interesting for Dutch visitors. Sinterklaas is in the country and the country is completely under the spell of this old holy man.

Piet van Vliet released this funny and pretty much “Wrong” song about Zwarte Piet and Witte L(ul).

One can explain it as Piet with his white chocolate letter – or with his white dick ;) .

Ilyushin Il-76: Slowest take-off I’ve ever seen

A colleague recently sent me the link to this movie. A Russian Ilyushin Il-76 cargo plane takes off from Canberra International Airport, Australia. The pilot literally uses all available runway genuinely surprising the aircraft spotters along the runway. Below quote by the person shooting this movie says it all:

I’m running out of film. Gee I hope I’ve got enough to film the crash

Review: Sint – Horror film – Dick Maas

Yesterday evening we went to Cineworld Beverwijk to watch the latest movie by Dick Maas: “Sint de film”. In an earlier post about Sint I’ve published the Sint movie trailer. Well I can tell you one thing:  the trailer is a lot more friendly than the movie itself.

The story in the movie beings in 1492 AD where Sint is plundring a medieval village. He kills parents and takes the children with his group of white faced helpers. The survivors resist and pick up the arms to chase Sint and his party. I won’t spoil it all, but in the end Sint gets burned badly as are his helpers. For this reason they now seem “Zwarte piet”.

Anyway as the story develops, every time it’s full moon on the fifth of december, the day Sint died, he returns to earth for revenge. This curse also took place in 1968, and now again in 2010. The story is of course not very strong – but the movie itself is very well constructed. The special effects and scary scenes are done very well and actuall put me in the back of my chair a couple of times.

I’d definitially recommend you going to Sint the movie. Rating: 8 out of 10!

Photo: Airbus A380 above the Egyptian pyramids

Airbus attends the AVEX International Airshow at Sharm el-Sheikh International Airport this year. EADS immediately took the chance to make some nice marketing footage – photo and video – of an A380 test aircraft above the Pyramids of Gizeh.

Unfortunately not much material is published yet, however the photo of the Airbus A380 over the Pyramids of Gizeh which is available is displayed at the bottom of this post. Cairo International Airport is capable of handling the A380 by the way – as tests have proven today.

Feel like spending a lot of money on a new table, and got an iPhone of which you feel the screen is too small? And the iPad just isn’t your thing? Go for iPhone Tableconnect. It’s cool.
